Private movement training sessions

THE MOVEMENT

Private movement training sessions are 60 minutes long, always one-on-one with Hannah, and completely individualized to help you achieve your movement goals. Sessions incorporate a blend of Mat & Reformer Pilates, GYROTONIC® movement, and functional fitness training; depending on the specific movement-related goals you are wanting to achieve determines how much of each modality will be utilized. These forms of exercise complement each other beautiful and ultimately help bring more control, awareness, and efficiency into one’s movement.

Not sure if this is the right step for you? No problem. Start by booking a free consultation session and learn more about how these movement modalities could benefit you.

The GYROTONIC® Method

Initially created as yoga for dancers, the Gyrotonic method is primarily centered around the idea of “expansion”. This multi-dimensional and equipment-based exercise consists of very low impact, rhythmic movement that focuses on re-aligning postural imbalances throughout the body and addressing movement patterns or “habits” that we have developed that typically lead to pain and overuse.  By working to elongate the spine, open joint space, free up fascial restrictions, and stimulate the circulatory and lymphatic systems, this exercise does not focus on one muscle group, one body part, at a time. This is whole body movement at its finest.

The Pilates Method

The Pilates method was introduced in the early 1900s as “Contrology”; a movement practice that resulted in an improved mind-body connection, universal strength, and overall injury prevention.  Pilates has since become a household name for core strengthening, gaining muscular strength and tone, and getting rock-solid abdominals. Our “core”, as we commonly refer to it, is a group of muscles absolutely essential to bringing efficiency into our functional movement, making it a vital tool in the rehabilitation and fitness world. This mat-based exercise uses body weight and breath to promote muscular facilitation, increased proprioception, and functional strengthening, allowing for ease and control in our everyday movement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Definitely not. While this movement can be a fabulous tool to aid in injury recovery, the benefits don’t stop there. Think of movement training as a supplement to activity you already do- daily chores, exercise, etc. This type of movement instruction is ideal for anyone looking for a different approach to working out, wanting to learn more about their body and how it moves, experience a non-judgmental environment to explore exercise, and gain a solid physical foundation that allows them to live their life and do the things they want to do.

Whether your goal is improving flexibility, gaining muscular strength, addressing form and/or posture, or currently recovering from an injury, this movement is an active and functional way to deepen your stability, control, and relationship with your own body.

This movement is accessible and accommodating towards all physical states and conditions, including:

  • Orthopedic
  • Neurological
  • Pre/post-surgical
  • Pelvic floor
  • Sports performance
  • Chronic pain & fibromyalgia
  • Cancer recovery and lymphedema
  • DeconditionIng
  • Pediatric, adult, & geriatric populations
  • Prenatal & postpartum

Each session is planned and prepared in advance based on your movement goals and physical requirements. Collaboration and communication with other members of your wellness team (ie. Physical therapists, massage therapists, etc.) is always welcome.

Don’t sweat it- everyone looks messy and colorful the first time (or three!) they try something new. Just wear something you feel comfortable moving in, and bring an open mind. These modalities of movement are unique but are possible for anyone.

These modalities are not your typical types of exercise, and aren’t designed to get your heart rate up exceptionally high, drench you in sweat, or leave you feeling debilitatingly sore afterwards.
