the movement

the two movement methodologies used at SOL Movement Center…

…are both famed for their ability to strengthen the core, improve dynamic stability, and promote a deeper understanding and awareness of one’s movement.

Both exercise systems train in low-impact, three-dimensional movement patterns that simulate everyday functional actions we complete. From high-levels athletes to those with chronic physical limitations, there is something to be gained from this movement for everyone.

This is more than movement; this is learning the language that your body speaks.

The GYROTONIC® Method

Initially created as yoga for dancers, the Gyrotonic method is primarily centered around the idea of “expansion”. This multi-dimensional and equipment-based exercise consists of very low impact, rhythmic movement that focuses on re-aligning postural imbalances throughout the body and addressing movement patterns or “habits” that we have developed that typically lead to pain and overuse.  By working to elongate the spine, open joint space, free up fascial restrictions, and stimulate the circulatory and lymphatic systems, this exercise does not focus on one muscle group, one body part, at a time. This is whole body movement at its finest.

The Pilates Method

The Pilates method was introduced in the early 1900s as “Contrology”; a movement practice that resulted in an improved mind-body connection, universal strength, and overall injury prevention.  Pilates has since become a household name for core strengthening, gaining muscular strength and tone, and getting rock-solid abdominals. Our “core”, as we commonly refer to it, is a group of muscles absolutely essential to bringing efficiency into our functional movement, making it a vital tool in the rehabilitation and fitness world. This mat-based exercise uses body weight and breath to promote muscular facilitation, increased proprioception, and functional strengthening, allowing for ease and control in our everyday movement.
